DRONE DETECTION

INTRODUCTION
As the usage of drones increases, so does the need for protection against unwanted aerial intrusion or careless operators. Because of the danger posed by the misuse of uav's, new technology is required that mitigates potential drone threats. Drones (uav's) have been around for many years, the wide acceptance, low prices and implementation is beginning to cause new conflicts. What is required is heightened awareness of the potential threat that this technology can pose to physical security and critical infrastructure.

To combat intrusion and threat, couple of detection technologies are explored, like Thermal Cameras, Radio sensors: - OR Radio sniffers, Compact Surveillance Radar (CSR). While these acoustics, radar and radio are also able to detect and potentially classify the detection as a drone, but they have multiple limitations.
FUNCTIONAL OBJECTIVES
  • ALERT (Advanced Laser Enabled Reconnaissance Technology) is a Breakthrough Invention in Remote Monitoring and networking of spatially separated sensors for comprehensive geo-spatial monitoring of various parameters enabled by innovative photonic systems. Accurate qualitative and quantitative data is collected in real time using a single laser source as a function of time and space.
ATTRIBUTES
  • The sensitivity and accuracy of the monitored parameters are very high compared to conventional sensor measurements.
  • The multifarious advantages of the systems include smaller time responses, higher accuracies, one system to measure a host of parameters in the time, frequency and spatial domains and the freedom from many known constraints associated with conventional sensors.
  • Laser sensors are at the fractional cost of their conventional equivalent. The photonic system collects 10000 data points per second. All the data is seamlessly integrated, distinguished and stored on Big Data.
  • Alert can be rotated 360DEG. Data of wind can be collected vertically as well as horizontally at a distance of every 100mm to 5km as required.
  • The multifarious advantages of the systems include: -
    • smaller time responses,
    • higher accuracies,
    • one system to measure a host of parameters in the time, frequency and spatial domains
ENABLER
  • Detect :
Cats Photonic Sensing Systems, ALERT can pick up small and slow-moving targets. Cats can detect moving platforms based on its Vibration and looking at wake created by Drones. With Multiple CATS photonic sensors, a virtual dome can be created with radius of 5KM's. A complete robust mechanism can be developed to check the threat perceptions.
  • Discriminate :
To counter threat, identifying the type of drone is important. Cats Photonic systems can then be precisely cued to track the drone for evaluation of the potential threat. For instance, to see what type of drone is approaching and if there is any type of visible payload. Further to evaluate the intent of the drone is to point a laser dazzler or spotlight on the drone to alert the operator that it is operating in restricted airspace. If the drone proceeds the alarm level can then be escalated.
  • Deactivate :
There are number of ways to deactivate that ranging from shooting, electronic jamming, communication link etc. By far the most effective and practical response is jamming of the radio link between the operator and the drone or if the drone is operating on full autopilot mode to jam the GPS receiver in the drone.
